8th Annual Literacy Links Golf Tournament Raises $50,000

BOYNTON BEACH, Fl, Apr. 26, 2024 – The 8th Annual Literacy Links Golf Tournament raised $50,000 to support adult and children’s literacy programs in Palm Beach County on April 26 at the Palm Beach Par 3 in Palm Beach, FL.
The tournament fundraiser featured 68 golfers playing to support the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County and their efforts to provide adults and children with links to literacy needed to succeed in school and in life. The participants were treated to lunch at the al Fresco Restaurant at the Palm Beach Par 3 clubhouse. The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County presented awards to the winning teams.
“We appreciate all of our sponsors and participants who helped raise funds for literacy programs in our community,” Literacy Coalition CEO Kristin Calder said. “It was a beautiful day, and the golfers enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and fun experience for an important cause. This event continues to support our mission to help children improve their reading skills.”
The first-place team included John Campo, Travis Foels, Tim Roy, and Pablo Beltran; the second-place team: Glen Calder, Peter Gary, Victor Creighton, and Alexander Creighton; and the third-place team: Brenda Medore, Leanne Adair, Gail Schultz and Barbara Kannapell.
Literacy Coalition board member Nancy Vera chaired the tournament and committee members included Caleb Bowser, John Campo, and Travis Foels. Sponsors included Brenda Medore and Leanne Adair, an anonymous donor, Lennar, Publix Super Markets Charities, The Palm Beach Post, Akerman LLP, Allstate – David Beaumont, Atherton Galardi Mullen & Reeder LLC, Cozen O’Connor, and Jones Foster.

In Palm Beach County, more than half of all third graders are not reading on grade level and 22% of adults aged 16 and older lack basic literacy skills. Through collaboration with a network of community partners, the Literacy Coalition strives to ensure that individuals who need to improve their literacy skills receive the help they need providing services to 55,967 adults, children, and families each year.
